seeing other people's reactions when I tell them I have cancer.

I had spots that looked like bruises on my skin and my left sinus was completely clogged. I had none of the traditional symptoms of leukemia.

I have 6 months of chemo:
1. Daunorubicin, Vincristine, Asparaginase, Prednisone
2. Cytarabine, Etoposide
3. Methotrexate
months 4, 5, and 6 are a repeat of months 1, 2, and 3. I also had 6 doses of intrathecal methotrexate (chemo injected into my spine).

Alia's Hiking FundraiserViews: 2325

Hello! It’s Alia again with another update…

Can you believe it… my experience with Hike for Discovery is almost coming to a close?! We take on our adventure in just a few weeks, hiking in the Grand Canyon to raise funds and awareness for blood cancer research and patient services. In preparation I have been hiking on Saturday mornings (very early!) with my team and on Thursdays after work at Torrey Pines with my co-worker/friend Madeline. I have attached a photo from a recent Saturday hike at Boden Canyon (near the Escondido/Ramona boarder) on August 25, 2007.

I want to thank everyone who has already donated to my fundraising. I could not be participating in this program without your support and it means so much to me that you have donated to this cause. For those of you who haven’t donated yet…IT’S NOT TOO LATE! You can easily donate today by clicking on my http://www.active.com/donate/hfdsdh/AKanani—I need to have all my funds in by September 28th! (Anything I don’t raise, I have to pay for myself…so I appreciate anything you can donate!) Thank you ahead of time for your support. Every penny helps us come one step closer to finding a cure. If you cannot donate, please forward my email to your friends, family and co-workers. I also hope to host a fundraising event later this month so stay posted for the details. I already have some fabulous raffle prizes and all the money raised will go directly to my fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Also, I wanted to provide a quick update on my friend Josi who is currently battling Leukemia. On August 26, 2007, she finished her second round of chemo which was pretty intense and took her about a week to recover from. She began her third round of chemo this past Wednesday (9/5) and her doctor said that this time it will hopefully be less intense; he said a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10. Every time I read her blog I am impressed with her strength and courage to fight this disease. I encourage you to read her blog (http://josigirl13.blogforacure.com/weblog) and learn more about Josi.

If you would like me to hike in honor of someone you know that has fought, is currently fighting cancer, or in memory of them, please email me aliakanani@aol.com their name and I will add them to my website and train for them too!

I sincerely thank you all for your time, support, and well wishes!

Alia Kanani

Thank you, thank you, thank you Josi! I realy appreciate the post. I hope that you are feeling better. Word on the street is that Jomama will be up in Sac on Saturday. I am sure that you will have a fantastic weekend and will eat really, really well. :)
