seeing other people's reactions when I tell them I have cancer.

I had spots that looked like bruises on my skin and my left sinus was completely clogged. I had none of the traditional symptoms of leukemia.

I have 6 months of chemo:
1. Daunorubicin, Vincristine, Asparaginase, Prednisone
2. Cytarabine, Etoposide
3. Methotrexate
months 4, 5, and 6 are a repeat of months 1, 2, and 3. I also had 6 doses of intrathecal methotrexate (chemo injected into my spine).

I am feeling pretty much recovered from the last round of treatments and so it must be time to start another! I am going back into the hospital for round three on Wednesday. This round is supposed to be easier than the last. The doc said that if the last round was a 10 in terms of difficulty, then this round is more like a 2. Thank goodness. I will be in the hospital to be given something to make my body’s pH level more basic and then I will be given a large dose of Methotrexate. This is pretty much the most standard chemo drug that almost all cancer patients have to take at some point. After they give me the methotrexate they will monitor the levels of the drug in my system until it is below .05. The doc says this usually takes about 3-4 days but has seen it take almost 2 weeks in one patient. Once the level is below .05 then I can go home. I will have to take some pills for the rest of the month but otherwise that’s it! He says this treatment will not make my white blood cell count go down so I should be feeling well and be able to do things. Once this round is done I will be halfway finished with chemo treatments and I will have experienced all of the drugs I will get. It will be good knowing what to expect for the next three months, rather than the big mystery of the past three.
September should be pretty busy. I am looking forward to visits from Joanna and my dad and Louise. My mom moves into her new apartment this weekend and so it will be a transition. The guys should be finishing up installing the washer/dryer this week so I should have laundry to do by the time I get home from the hospital. (small joys) I am looking forward to having a month of feeling good, hanging out with friends, cooking, and maybe taking some day trips to napa or tahoe. I still can’t believe I have been here a year and have not been to tahoe. Ridiculous. Anyway, that’s the update. Hope all is well with my faithful bloggers, keep posting! I love to read your comments and hear what’s new and going on in your lives!
Peace, love, and good days,
Josi
