seeing other people's reactions when I tell them I have cancer.

I had spots that looked like bruises on my skin and my left sinus was completely clogged. I had none of the traditional symptoms of leukemia.

I have 6 months of chemo:
1. Daunorubicin, Vincristine, Asparaginase, Prednisone
2. Cytarabine, Etoposide
3. Methotrexate
months 4, 5, and 6 are a repeat of months 1, 2, and 3. I also had 6 doses of intrathecal methotrexate (chemo injected into my spine).

rest for the wearyViews: 2234

I am finally home! I left Sutter on Wednesday afternoon and was relieved to see my bed. It felt weird being in the world after so long. I realized how weak I became this month while climbing the 5 short stairs on my porch…felt like climbing everest. I have been pretty much crashed out since I got home. I move from sleeping in my bed to sleeping on my couch back to bed again. My mouth continues to get better every day. Today I had oatmeal for breakfast and a tuna sandwich for lunch; the first day have really had solid foods. I woke up famished and craving something real to eat. I think today is also the first day I didn’t sleep the whole day. I took a couple of naps but found the time and energy to chat with mom on the porch, watch her put together her screen painting, and now I have finally found the energy and the words to blog.
I think this chemo is affecting my hormones as well. My body has no ability to regulate its temperature, so I spend most of the day sweating under a fuzzy blanket which is better than freezing my buns off with the air conditioning. I just feel sweaty and clammy all the time. And I have bouts of sweating for no reason which I am told is like hot flashes for menopausal women…ahh the joys of cancer.
On a happier note, the guys from Sears came to deliver my washer/dryer today and the contracter will be here to install it on Tuesday. no more laundromat! :) My doctor is on vacation until wednesday, so no more appointments or blood tests until thursday. Can you believe that guy? Going on vacation while I’m sick?? :) He says he will not start me on the next round of chemo until I am totally recovered from this one. So I am looking forward to a nice long break from the hospital and the chemo, and he says the next round is the easiest so I am looking forward to that.
Much love to all of you who hung in there with me this month! It was a rough one, and there was not much blogging going on. This month will be better!
peace, love, and healing,
Josi

Hiya Josi! I am so glad to hear that you are finally home and feeling better. Yay for tuna sandwiches and your sores disappearing. I found a cafe in Golden Hill that makes a fantastic tuna sandwhich and they have cupcakes too. Maybe I can figure out a way to send you a cupcake now that your appetite it back (i have a feeling that the tuna will not travel so well). :) Stay strong and I am sending lots of good vibes from SD!
