“In the morning, fever all through the night.”
Yesterday SUCKED. I think I slept for like 20 hours or something. I had a fever and a headache all day and was pretty much a blob on the couch. My aunt Suzanne will tell you, it was a STELLAR hair day. It was scary feeling that bad just out of the blue like that. I was taking my temp every hour or so, hoping it would not go up, wondering if I should call the doc or not. We decided just to watch the temp, drink lots of water, take some tylenol, and see how I was in the morning. So this morning I am feeling a little better. The shower did worlds of good (especially for the hair) and I am scheduled to see the doc at 11:30 to fill him in on the weekend.
Saturday was a good day. Thanks to Joanna I had four live Maine lobsters delivered to the house on Saturday morning! She was on a little trip with her mom to the lovely state of Maine and decided that I needed a little taste of the sea. I took the lobsters to Lauren and Mark’s and we had a lobster feast! It was my first time cooking lobsters (without Jo) and it was pretty comical. I’ve never heard Lauren scream like that! You would think we were killing bugs or something! But in her defense, Mark wouldn’t even get near the lobsters.
We had a lovely lobster risotto, roasted asparagus, salad and crusty bread, good friends and dinner on the back patio. If Joanna had been there it would have been perfect! (Jo, we even talked politics).
Today is the last day of my aunt Suzanne’s visit with me. It has been great having her here; we got a lot of organizing projects done. She has definitely kept me on task without pushing me to do too much. It’s also been nice to have someone here who is not a parent who understands the family dynamics, even though I think I’ve always been like a surrogate daughter to her. She has three sons, so when we’re together we get to do girly things like get pedicures and shop for headscarves! I am sad to see her go.
My step-sister Katie has the next shift and she arrives tomorrow night. I will be going into the hospital on Wednesday for 5 days for my next round of chemo treatments. The treatments are IV drugs Cytarabine and Etoposide that are given over a 5 hour period each day. These drugs apparently have some neurological side effects, so I am nervous about that. The rest of August I don’t have any treatments, so that should be good. Just blood tests and checkups. I am hoping and praying that I feel good. I am willing it to happen. I am visualizing it happening.
I will try to blog again before my admission to the hospital, but after that I will have no internet in the hospital. They really need to fix that. I mean, can you believe that these days they don’t have internet access in a place where people are just sitting around all day? I guess its mostly old people in the hospital and they are probably not demanding internet access that vigorously. Anyway, I will be in touch after I get out or you can reach me by phone.
Peace, love, and good vibes!

10.15.08 -
Just checking in to tell you I was thinking about ya.
Hold on here comes a great big Hug!
Sherri
Hey Josi! Good luck today and I am sending you lots of good vibes. Thanks for all the posts about my hike! I am only in my third week of fundraising and a third of the way to my fundraising goal. wahoo! BTW - Check your mail in about a week and I LOVE the red lipstick. It looks fantastic!
ps. loved your story about the lobstahs (yes, Jo and Lauren Curley have taught me how to pronouce lobster east coast style)! I remember when we had them last year. I don’t know which was funnier, Jo and I trying to drive back from Pt. Loma Seafood with all the LIVE lobsters in the back of her car in two leaking buckets or…Jo and Christian trying to cram the lobsters into the stock pot that was clearly too small! Regardless the meal was fantastic!
Hi Hunny,
I hope this day finds you feeling a little better. You got that song “Fever” in my head. I actually turned up Wham’s “Wake me up before you go go” turned up to help me get the sexy tune out of my head. Hey, why does George Michael say “go go” and not just “go”? Is he really trying to say “wka eme up before you go” as in out of the house or away from where he is? If so, wouldn’t you agree that “Wake me up, before you go-oh” is a little better? You could keep the same rhythm and still make sense. Unless of course “go go” a dance and he is saying “wake me up before you go-go dance” but I don’t think he means that at all. I think he is just stupid.
Here are some more Deep Thoughts:
“We like to praise birds for flying. But how much of it is actually flying, and how much of it is just sort of coasting from the previous flap?”
When I was a kid my favorite relative was Uncle Caveman. After school we’d all go play in his cave, and every once in a while he would eat one of us. It wasn’t until later that I found out that Uncle Caveman was a bear.”
“To me, it’s always a good idea to always carry two sacks of something when you walk around. That way, if anybody says, “Hey, can you give me a hand?,” you can say, “Sorry, got these sacks.”
“If you’re in a war, instead of throwing a hand grenade at the enemy, throw one of those small pumpkins. Maybe it’ll make everyone think how stupid war is, and while they are thinking, you can throw a real grenade at them.”
“To me, clowns aren’t funny. In fact, they’re kinda scary. I’ve wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus and a clown killed my dad.”
“It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.”
And that’s that.
Love you.

Ok, to set the record straight: the reason I screamed is that a lobster was legitimately TYRING TO CLIMB OUT OF THE POT OF BOILING WATER. That’s a little alarming; I don’t know why you weren’t freaked out by that!
Even though there was some cooking drama, the lobsters were wonderful. Thank you, thank you Joanna!
You’re welcome my dear! Sorry to hear about the Great Escape attempt. I forgot to tell Josi to use a lid, and I usually put something heavy on top… Wish I could have dined with your crew!
