I am so glad to be back at home! The marvelous Dr. Sayegh said the magic words circa 7am and I arrived home by 11am this morning. I am still going to be getting the enzyme treatment, but as an outpatient, for the next 7 days. Although I will have to go in to the doctor’s office everyday, at least I will not have to sit in a hospital room all day.
The good news is that my white blood cell counts are up and within normal range. The doc gave the thumbs up for me to eat out (within reason). He said, don’t go eating street tacos from a stand or go to any buffets or anything. He clearly has not met me. So today I had one of the things I have been craving: fresh, crunch, spicy: spicy buffalo chicken salad from Jack’s (sans the blue cheese, but still worth it). (side note: I talk about food a lot, huh?)
The bad news is that the chemo treatment is making my stomach ache, so I am trying to keep my mind off that. The drugs I have been given to manage this side effect don’t really work, but I’m not doubled over in pain or anything. Just a slight annoyance that clearly has not yet interfered with my appetite! I also have this yucky taste in my mouth most of the time which I am trying to manage with Jolly ranchers and juice and water. Otherwise I am feeling good and have good energy. I am looking forward to walking outside and hopefully making an appearance at my softball game on Thursday. We have only lost one game this season and I think we are going to take the championship. Wish I could play!
Last week went by really fast. My mom was here, thank goodness, as I don’t think I could have made it through losing my hair without her. It was hard to see her go, but she will be back for good in August. Anne is here now to take over the care-taking duties, although I haven’t needed too much taking care of. I see some gourmet tag-team dinners in the near future. Sounds like my almost grand-parents will be rolling thru Sactown this week as well, so we should have a nice visit.
I continue to be blessed by all of you, friends, family, friends of friends, friends of family, and survivors who have connected to me on this site. Thank you for all of your emails, comments, cards, letters, gifts, movie and book ideas, prayers, smiles, and thoughts. I am so grateful to have all of you.
I want to give a shout out to all of my bar-passers-to-be out there. I am wishing you clarity, brevity, and luck (although luck has nothin’ to do with it). You are prepared, you know more now than you ever will know, and the answers will be there when you need them.
All my best,
Josi

Glad your home.
There is nothing better then “Home Sweet Home”!
You go gal eat up.
Love Sherri
Congrats on getting home. It makes the battle a bit easier in your own space, with your own things, in your own bed. You sound great. Good luck with the stomach stops hurting. Keep getting better!
Yay! What a good birthday present, that you are home and in good spirits and in Anne’s capable hands.. and that Sara is bringing you food delivery. I am just sitting here in my office, casually perusing the Restatement Second of Torts. Remember this day last year dude? I was banging my head against the wall over community property and you gave me three kinds of cake, and we had a roomful of peeps and enchiladas. A pretty solid bday. Missing you today.
love love love love love love love love (times) 31,
jo
Happy birthday, mama! I wish I was cooking you a birthday feast this year. We could re-create the lobster night we had last year, or catch some Nickle Creek at Humphrey’s, that coconut cake ROCKED. Did you get your present yet? Hope your voice is back, I’m calling you later…
31 hugs to you
I am still squeaky. Jamie is making me a ridiculous feast for 12 tonight- I am saving lobster for you, when I come up there. I am going to maine in approximately 8 days. Tell Lauren – watch out. (because they are worthy of atlantic lobster)
Hey Josi!
I love the new pictures… especially the head scarf. You are looking fabulous. I just about jumped in my seat when I read that you might be coming to softball this week. So exciting. I can’t wait to give you a big hug! I’ve been thinking of you and praying for you lots.
Love,
Rona
