seeing other people's reactions when I tell them I have cancer.

I had spots that looked like bruises on my skin and my left sinus was completely clogged. I had none of the traditional symptoms of leukemia.

I have 6 months of chemo:
1. Daunorubicin, Vincristine, Asparaginase, Prednisone
2. Cytarabine, Etoposide
3. Methotrexate
months 4, 5, and 6 are a repeat of months 1, 2, and 3. I also had 6 doses of intrathecal methotrexate (chemo injected into my spine).

Day 3Views: 1961

Little happening today. I got a great night’s sleep thanks to a sleeping pill. But it was kind of odd to wake up with my doctor at the foot of my bed saying “wake up josi”. Someone had even delivered my breakfast and I didn’t even notice. Of course it was 7:30am.
Nothing much really happened until I got my next chemo treatment around 2:30. I felt sleepy afterwards and have never really woken out of it. My head feels foggy and heavy and my body is moving slow. I guess this is just the beginning. No hair loss yet tho’!
Sara came to visit to fill me in on office gossip, (surprisingly slim pickin’s today) and I whooped my mom at scrabble. Ahhh the excitement.
The only news I have is that they might let me go home on Friday. This freaks me out a little because in here I am pretty protected from infections etc. But I will be happy to get some fresh air and go for a walk. Cheers to that!
Much love to all of you!
Josi

Hi Josi,
Leukemia has obviously not seen you wipe the courtroom floor with defense attorneys, even skilled public defenders. I don’t have a doubt you’ll kick its ass – I am thinking of you and will continue to cheer you on.
Love, Kasia

We’re thinking of you & your mom and appreciate your updates. Good to hear the bone marrow was clear and glad you may be going home Fri.
I have a great movie for you but you must appreciate scandinavian humor! ‘Kitchen Secrets’ is a film about Swedish social scientists studying the kitchen behavior of Norwegian bachelors. Ken Shipstead told us to go to it and we thought it was hysterical. I was getting my hair cut today and Gilbert wishes you the best and gave me some more films which I will send on later. For a quick bunch of essays you can’t beat Jsmes Thurber’s collection, The Thurber Carnival. We love his ‘Fables for our Time” and wonderful illustrations/cartoons from years ago in the New Yorker – maybe old fashioned but never out of the comedy barrel.
I know your hanging in there and we may see you if we can manage to drive up for storytelling at Nevada City in about 3 weeks. That depends on how my toes are doing since I’m having them fixed Friday. I’m watching your website for more comedy ideas I can get at the library.
Our love, Mimi & Don

Hi Josi…well, seeing how Sara gave you slim-pickins yesterday, I can tell you about my absolutely horrible case. I had a DUI where defense (a certain Mixon)decided to concede that his guy was drunk. So essentially the only issue was “drive.” I had an independent witness who saw D driving, but b/c that witness was a security guard, I guess the jurors did not believe him. Instead, they chose to believe his friend (who walked in with a black eye) who said the car ran out of gas and as he pushed it from behind, D steered it… HELLO, that is considered “driving” under the law. He had actual, physical control over the vehicle. So I thought, hey, I win both ways, right? WRONG! All 12 decided not guilty in about an hour. Good times, right?

Anyway, I thought that might bring a chuckle to you. I just talked to Sara and she said you were doing well yesterday. I can’t wait to come see you, especially if you come home. We miss you and I wish you were playing softball with us tonight. It is tough without our best girl.

Oh, and I am cat-sitting Scribble and he keeps me up all night. I even tried to close my bedroom door on him and well, wouldn’t you know he actually knows how to open them. What a witty kitty right? Lauren and Mark owe me big time!

Love you lots Josiane, talk to you soon :)

Okay, maybe I am technologically inept, but it took me almost a half hour to figure out how to post a comment. By george, I think I have got it.

I just came back from Dept 57 where I am in a DV trial with Lindsay in front of old 1000 year old Gallagher. I was hungry and went to Chong’s joint across the street to grab a pastrami sandwich. It was pretty salty and greasy and now I have remnants of yellow mustard underneath my acrylic pink and whites. To top it off, I am too lazy to go to the ladies room to wash my hands so I am cleaning them with Rite Aid Moist towlettes. You are missing nothing in room 354b.

Shel and I are flying to Chicago tomorrow for Omar’s wedding. Our plan leaves at 6:35am which means Max and I have to go get her at her place at 5:15am! Poor Max—I don’t think he knew what he was signing up for when I asked for a ride to the airport. (I am making good headway with the mustard).

I had a case yesterday involving a dude who had 5 girlfriends who shared him. He lived with one or two of them and the other fed him and chaperoned him to places. He made the mistake of choking one of them, which is how I got a chance to meet him. Man, what a pimp! Of course he took the stand and tried to be a charmer. But what he didn’t know was that whwn I don’t have yellow mustard underneath my fake nails, I can be pretty charming myself. That said, I managed to get his number after the verdict came back. I would never wanna miss out on someone with so much game.

Okay, I give in—off to the ladies room to use the new sinks.

I miss you.

Q

sounds like an excellent day to me! I’d kill for a greasy pastrami sandwich and a chance to see what a guy who can hold down 5 girlfriends looks like! :) miss you too!

Hello Josie,

Trust you managed to get some rest. How are you feeling? Well…....I’m a little embarrassed to mention, this is the very first time I am writing a ‘blog’ message. It’s really busy here in admissions as we prepare for another intake of students. I’m trying to juggle full time work and life at home with a 4.5 year old and husband that seems to forget so much :) Stay positive and you’ll here again from me soon.

Thanks for all the tours you did for us and stay great!

Warm hugs ,
Susan.
