seeing other people's reactions when I tell them I have cancer.

I had spots that looked like bruises on my skin and my left sinus was completely clogged. I had none of the traditional symptoms of leukemia.

I have 6 months of chemo:
1. Daunorubicin, Vincristine, Asparaginase, Prednisone
2. Cytarabine, Etoposide
3. Methotrexate
months 4, 5, and 6 are a repeat of months 1, 2, and 3. I also had 6 doses of intrathecal methotrexate (chemo injected into my spine).

josi's leukemia battle a la Dan PorrasViews: 1499

i have to share the first in a series of tales told to me by my good friend from law school Dan Porras. This is just the first installment…stay tuned for future episodes….

“yo, i was on my way to home ec. class for fourth period, and i ran into this group of kids. and leukimia was standing in the middle talkin all this shit about j. dixon goin down like a chump and he’s gonna whoop ass on j. dixon and he’s gonna steal j. dixon’s new girl. at this point i’m all, hey, are you talkin about josiah dixon or jossie dixon, cuz you ain’t fightin josiah after school at the flag pole. at this point, luke’s face is all, DAAAAAAMN! i gotta fight jossie dixon? shit man, uh, i uh, i think i gots a dentist appointment or somethin. yeah, i gotta go. and then luke just took off runnin like a little whiny bitch. and i’m all lookin at the other kids goin, WHAT?! ain’t ya’ll got class or somethin? and they all left. except this one slimmy who was real fine. she had fiery red hair and sexy glasses. she got to stay behind. mhmmm.”

(disclaimer: any resemblance to any real people is purely (not) coincidental and should be disregarded (unless you liked the portrayal, then it was on purpose)).

Dan—please don’t let the stories stop but please study for the bar too! less than a month!

Hey Jos!

I just wanted you to know that I am thinking about you to remind you that you are always in my heart (not just when crazy things are going on!).

Two weeks ago I was thinking about you (and Jomama) and feeling guilty because I still have gifts for you from Thailand. Drop me an email with your address and I’ll try to get them out this week sometime!

Josi – you are an amazingly strong woman and have inspired me since the first time we met. More than anything I wish you weren’t having to deal with this. I hope you find comfort and encouragement in the knowledge that anyone who has ever met you has known without question that you are a formidable opponent and always end up in the winner’s seat!

I wish I had something beautiful and poignant to say (sorry, I traded those skills for IRAC - at least until the end of that month!) that could sum up how amazing you are and why you inspire everyone. Instead I will channel Trisha and just say: Jos – you are a ROCKSTAR and have a world of people in your corner – always. Just let us know what we can do!

All my best,
Katia

What a great post! Dan you are a crack up. Love the attitude. Here is a quote from one of the other survivors on this subject, “GO IN LIKE PATTEN AND KILL THE ENEMY.”
